8 Ways To Avoid Burnout
We all experience "burn out" at some time in our lives. It could be that you're working overtime in school, trying to finish a degree to get that dream job you almost wanted. It could be that you have a side hustle and a full-time job and you're trying hard to be successful at both so you can make enough money to live the life you wanted. You probably made some ftiness goals this year and you're training 5 days a week to meet that goal. Whatever it is, know that you're not alone and this post is specifically for you.
Here are some ways you can avoid or prevent that burn out feeling.
1. Sleep
If you’re tired you definitely will not function properly. For me, I always aim to do my best but they are times when I deliver mediocre work and the client sends it back for a modification. Why was the work mediocre? I was tired and trying to beat the deadline . This, of course, hurts me in the end because I end up having to do it over.
2. Check in with yourself.
Self-reflect and identify what is contributing to your burnout. Are you taking on too many tasks? Are you in control of your calendar? Are you focused on your health? When was the last time you went on vacation? Do you have controlling people in your life? Are you writing down all your commitments in order to eliminate the unnecessary?
3. Be proactive
If you're experiencing or anticipating burnout, address them. Maybe you just need to take a break, delegate some of the tasks, attack your goals one at a time instead of all at once. Don't just sit there and hope things will get better.
4. Hit the pause button
If you have a packed schedule with no downtime is literally a recipe for disaster. Sometimes, literally taking a walk, going for a drive, closing your eyes, watching your favourite series or pulling out your headphones to listen to your favourite tunes can actually make a big difference.
5. Peek at Your Successes
From time-to-time, it's a good idea to revisit where you were coming from so you can appreciate where you currently are and where you want to get to.
6. Stop and Get Organized
When you're working hard and focused on your work, disorganization is nothing more than a distraction and can have you feeling stressed. Taking the time to get organized can save you from stress-induced burnout.
7. Know Your Stressors
Personally, if I hate doing a task, I will procrastinate until I simply can't anymore. let's face it, we hate doing what we don't like and I am sure you can relate but, especially in a business, some of these tasks cannot be avoided. Once you're able to identify these stressors, you can create a plan for getting them done and off your list.
8.Just Say No
It's always tough to turn down work especially when you need the extra cash but you have that gut feeling where you know you can't handle the work with all that you have on your plate.
Sometimes you have a goal and you set a deadline and you know deep down this goal will not be achieved in the time you originally set so it would make sense to push back the date. Sometimes your friends will want you to hang out with them and you may not have enough funds or you have other plans and instead of cancelling you say yes.Sometimes No is just the best answer.
