Entrepreneur Highlight: Meet Stacy
1. Tell us more about yourself.
Hi I’m Stacy. Blogger and chief content strategist for SpendingSavvy with Stacy, a blog that seeks to guide readers on best practices in managing their credit cards and maximizing rewards earned. I’m also a marketer, writer and mom.
I love art, music, fashion and great books. I also love to explore new places and have travelled to several new countries all by myself. I love nice things but equally love a great bargain, so I’m an avid seeker of deals and rewards. That’s how I became so passionate about using credit cards, for me it’s such a no brainer if you are disciplined about your spending.
2. How did you gain your knowledge about credit cards?
I’ve spent close to 20 years in the credit card business and it wasn’t planned at all. It all started when I applied to NCB Centre for a job in their Authorization Centre in 1997. I wanted a job that allowed me the flexibility of working shifts and weekends so that I could go to university while I worked and I was lucky enough to be hired.
NCB was, and still is the leader acquirer of credit cards in Jamaica, and when I joined, there was no call centre and so, the authorization department that operated 24/7 was the de facto call centre that would handle credit card queries at all times of day and night. As a result, each team member had to learn to handle all queries.
I later moved to the customer service department, handled program management and cards marketing. I took a year’s break from corporate life after sixteen and a half years in the cards and echannels business and later joined Sagicor Bank to launch their new cards portfolio.
3. How do you promote yourself?
Since the launch of SpendingSavvy I’ve primarily used a combination of social media and direct marketing to promote the site. I’ve been building a mailing list of subscribers who get news of any updates and new information first. I’ve utilized social media, using both paid and free posts. Word of mouth, referrals from colleagues, friends and family are also helping to spread the word as I add content to the site. As I add more resources toSpendingsavvy.com I will implement more robust marketing.
4. How can we get in touch with you?
The best ways to get in touch with me are:
Email: spendingsavvywithstacy@gmail
Instagram: @spendingsavvy
Facebook: www.facebook.com/spendingsavvy/spendingsavvy
Or leave me a message at the blog www.spendingsavvy.com
5. Do you have any upcoming projects?
The blog is still new so I’m building out content, adding resources and making the site into a great resource for persons who want to win at using credit cards. Anyone who wants to benefit from my knowledge about cards should subscribe at spendingsavvy.com so they can be among the first to learn about new developments.
6. What is your philosophy in life?
I believe one should look for the positive in every situation. I strongly believe the sentiment that everyone comes into your life as a lesson or a blessing. If we also apply this principle to experiences, then we are less likely to spend time dwelling on mistakes. Life is a process- learn, apply and be thankful for every new day.
7. In your opinion what do you think are the keys to success?
Passion, dedication, and constantly honing your skills are very important to achieve success. Be open to learning and be prepared to spend time implementing.
8. What made you start your business?
For some time now I’ve felt compelled to share what I know. I’ve seen firsthand what mismanagement of cards can do to a person’s finances, and some persons just genuinely don’t know how a credit card works or how to manage it.
The main aim of SpendingSavvy is to share information. Having the blog also allows me an outlet for my writing.
It is also great to have a blog because I can take it with me no matter where I am. I plan to do a bit of travelling this year, so that’s great.
9. What blogs and websites do you follow and why?
I follow a few blogs to help me from a business perspective and also blogs that just provide entertainment or insight into others’ lives.
BYregina is one of my favorites. Regina is an unlimited resource for online entrepreneurs and she provides the information in easy to understand non-stuffy ways.
I also love your blog Suetanya, you touch on so many areas, from online business tips to having fun on a cruise. It’s always interesting to see what next you will cover.
