Suety Travel Diaries : Sea Cliff Resort and Reach Falls

The Great 28th!

Route: Kingston through to Morant bay to Portland

So this year I decided to really go all out of for my birthday. I mean 28 years on this earth is a lot to be thankful for right? One of the things I had planned was a trip to Portland where I would visit Reach Falls and then stay at the Sea Cliff Resort. The Journey is only about 2.5- 3 hours long coming from Kingston. Let me just warn you, the weather is a bit bipolar in Jamaica, one minute it will be sunny and a next minute thunderstorms ( especially now that it's hurricane season) so make sure to pack an umbrella.

Reach Falls is one of Jamaica's famous attractions located in Portland, Jamaica.  The falls is interestingly refreshing and one of the places I recommend you visit if ever you're in the parish. When I got there I was told by one of the locals that the Falls was closed and immediately my spirit was crushed.  I never thought to call the office to ask their opening days or anything like that- poor decision. The falls is only open to the public Wednesday through Sunday 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. The admission, which includes a short tour is $5 US for ages 4-12 years and  $10 US for 12 years and over.  Luckily one of the locals saw me parked by the sign and offered to take me up to the falls.  He explained to me that the government owns a part of the falls (picture below) but all the parts leading up to the falls is actually accessible by way of property in the community that he had access to, so I was able to enjoy the river and natural pools and take pictures and go as far as I was allowed to. Our local tour guide was great as he gave us a little history and took pictures for us so we could focus more on watching where we were going as those rocks can be slippery!  Unfortunately I cannot remember his name and I didn't remember t take his number but he can be found at the top of the road, right at the turn off from the main road. Reach Falls has been featured in popular movies including Tom Cruise's Cocktails and the remake of Lord of the Flies.

The view there is breathtaking and if you're like me, who likes to capture memories, make sure to purchase a waterproof case to take your phone or camera with you. I don't think I need to stress how relaxing, beautiful and captivating this place really is. I'll simply say just go see for yourself.

The View was everything!

Next Stop: Sea Cliff Resort

Now I have been daydreaming about this place for weeks. I already knew it would be the highlight of my birthday celebration based on how awesome the website pictures looked. If I was to design a perfect getaway for myself this would have been the place. When I got there the first thing that stood out to me was how green the grass was.  It's obvious that they take great pride in the appearance of the property.  I love nature so I definitely appreciated the bamboo details all throughout the property. The resort is very simple, embodying what a typical resort has, the rooms have a nature type vibe but with a modern twist. My favorite parts of the room were the bamboo bed head, the hammock and the stone shower.

The resort is not all inclusive but breakfast is complimentary. The dining area is at the back of the property, close to the edge of the cliff with the best view of the pretty blue Caribbean sea. I wish I could take home with me the sounds of the waves crashing against the rocks. It's just so relaxing. The resort is perfect for persons who just want a private getaway, who may just want to relax and unplug. Let's say you are that type of person who also love adventure- they offer excursion packages that I'm sure you will love to take part in.

All in all, I had a fantastic time here. This is probably one of the best places I have stayed in a while and I have been to a few.  Check out the pictures and videos below. Don't forget to like and comment below.
