Your life isn't going well... blame your damn self

Your life isn’t going the way you want it to? Blame yourself.

Did you know that you have all that you need to change your life? Let me tell you a little story. A long time ago, around the age of 17, I remember feeling stuck. I wasn't sure what I wanted in life and it felt like all my decisions, my choices, the things I was doing, was to please someone else, namely my parents. I didn't feel like I had any control or felt like I had a say in my own life.

CRAZY RIGHT?

It also seemed liked everyone else was progressing but me and for a while I just convinced myself success wasn't for me. Sometime after that my favorite rapper of all time dropped a song called “Forever” and some of the lyrics caught my attention. It definitely made me start to think about a few things.

“It may not mean nothin' to y'all
But understand nothin' was done for me
So I don't plan on stopping' at all “

“Last name Ever, first name Greatest
Like a sprained ankle, boy, I ain't nothin' to play with
Started off local, but thanks to all the haters
I know G-IV pilots on a first name basis”

“Everybody got a deal, I did it without one”

Drake didn’t look like the typical rapper. Just think about it, most rappers have a billion chains around their neck, the fancy watch, baggy jeans hanging low or the tightest jeans (depending on the era), a ton of tattoos… you know what I’m talking about. It seemed as if every new rapper came on the scene followed this trend. Similarly society says this is what success looks like  so we become copies. Drake didn't come in looking like a typical rapper, he came in the business being himself and he remained that way. Even though, people often tease him about his soft lyrics, he still became successful. I wanted to be just like him, success on my own terms. I wanted to be successful doing the things I had a passion for, on my own terms. My mindset changed, I took pen to paper and wrote my goals down, worked hard, picked myself up after every failure and persisted.

So if Drake can be a success, if Oprah can be a success, if Andrew Carnegie can be a success, if Bill Gates can be a success… why can’t you?  Don't you want to live a life that you are proud of? There is nothing that is standing in your way but yourself!

A few things I found in common among successful people is that they realized that they were not happy with where there were in life, they had dreams of where they wanted to be and then they worked hard until they got there.

I hope this post will be your wake up call. Start writing your success story today.
