Why Your Website Numbers Are So Low
If a tree falls in the forest, and no-one’s around to hear it, does it make a sound? We could reasonably say the same thing about a website. A site is worthless if no-one is visiting. If you’re trying to run and grow your business, then it’s imperative that people are visiting your little corner of the internet. But this is easier said than done. There is, after all, no shortage of competition out there, so even one or two mistakes can seriously affect your visitor numbers. Below, we take a look at some of the common reasons why your numbers might be low.
Social Media Priorities
Now don’t get us wrong: your social media channels are important. You’ll want to make sure that you have watertight, well-curated channels on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. However, there’s a common mistake that people make when it comes to social media. They think that having followers on those platforms is the end goal. In fact, your end goal is to get your followers to click through and visit your website. As such, don’t make social media the priority -- your website is the priority. Save your best content for your site; don’t give it all away free on other people’s sites.
They Can’t Find You
You could have the best, most valuable site on the web, but if people aren’t able to find you, then you’re going to find digital success hard to come by. It’s always worth keeping in mind that the vast majority of internet users find their sites through the big search engines, so it’s important that those sites -- Google in particular -- are able to find you. If you don’t know how to give your search engine credentials a boost, then look at working with an SEO consultant. They’ll have the knowledge and experience needed to make sure that your potential customers can find you.
Lack of Value
We mentioned earlier how there’s no shortage of web pages out there. And the truth is that the vast, vast majority of sites don’t get visited at all; they’re just filling up the space. And the reason they don’t receive visitors is that they don’t offer anything of value. People aren’t going to spend time on a site just because it’s there -- it has to be worth their while. So take a look at what your site offers: is it something that they can’t easily get from elsewhere?
Additionally, you’ll also want to make sure that you’re consistently providing new content to your visitors. They might like your site, but if the content is limited, and nothing new is ever posted, then they won’t be returning all that often.
Annoying Features
The internet is awesome, but boy, oh boy, it can be annoying sometimes. As a general rule, try not to annoy people. You’ll lose visitors before they’ve had a chance to check out your stuff if you have autoplay videos, pop-ups, and dark patterns taking up your site, or if it’s too slow.
As summer draws to a close, it's the perfect time to pause, reflect, and realign your goals for the rest of the year. Summer often brings relaxation, adventures, and new experiences, but as the days grow shorter, it's a natural point to evaluate what you’ve accomplished and where you want to go next.
